06:18 pm - home at last!
after two months in a nursing home I am finally at home in Brooklyn. it's been really challenging. I fell Twice in the first few days, but I didn't hurt myself, so just scary. we had to get the paramedics to come help me up one time. Now we have a home health aid so I have more supervision and help. as much as I want to be independent safety is the key now. I can't afford to hurt myself in a fall. of course being home is also wonderful! my own bed my own schedule my own boyfriend!!!!!! We're going to head out to California on Tuesday for my extended convalescence with my family. I will continue to work hard to get better. Still waiting for my left hand to show some sign of returning, but everyone says The hand is the last thing to come back. so I'm trying to roll with it.

11:28 am - Size 12+ Women, Run, Don't Walk...
to Lee Lee's Valise in the beautiful Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn.
A Full-Service Boutique ~Catering to Women Sizes 12-24+
368 Court Street @ President Street Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, 718-246-LEES (5337)
F or G Train to Carroll Street Station, President Street exit ~ Store is one block up
Driving: Atlantic Avenue exit on the BQE
Shopping at Lee Lee's, assisted in person by the lovely Lisa (aka Lee Lee) herself, was the best shopping experience of my entire life. I've always dreamed of this: a full service boutique for big girls. Lee Lee stocks a lot of the online brands like Kiyonna and Size Appeal, but you actually get to try stuff on. Then she has a lot of high end stuff, designer dresses, which I can't afford right now, but if I ever can, I know I'm coming here. My favorite discovery was a designer called Fashion Overdose out of San Diego, CA (go Cali!). I bought two amazing pieces, a skirt and a fancy t-shirt. Again, you should check out their website too, but at Lee Lee's you can try it all on! She spent more than an hour with me helping me to find things, and she has a great eye for what will look good on each customer's body. She's also very honest and won't try to hard sell you something that clearly isn't working. So don't be afraid to let her help you--if you are like me you aren't used to this kind of caring, skilled service at a store, so I was suspicious at first, but she did an amazing job of picking things out that I would never have tried. She also has a great selection of high end jeans that look amazing and are totally worth the price. You will spend money at Lee Lee's, but on quality items that you will love and will last a long time.
If anyone wants to plan a trip, comment here. I can't wait to go back!

04:59 pm - how to eat soup dumplings
Requirements:
a steaming platter of SOUP DUMPLINGS from Joe's Shanghai
tongs
chinese soup spoon (porcelain preferred)
chinese bowl (porcelain preferred)
Optional but highly recommended:
good friends to share them
Use tongs to gently lift a soup dumpling from the platter. Soup dumplings are very fragile. If your dumpling ruptures during this critical stage, drop it in the bowl for later and try again.
Place soup dumpling in spoon. Hold spoon over bowl.
Use front teeth to bite a tiny hole near the top of the dumpling. Blow into the hole to cool soup and meat inside.
Put lips to tiny hole in dumpling and suck a small amount of soup into your mouth. This will help to reduce the amount of liquid in preparation for your first real bite.
Holding the dumpling in the spoon and over the bowl, take a large bite of the dumpling. Soup will spill into the spoon and bowl. That's ok. Swallow. If it was still too hot, open your mouth and suck in cooler air.
Spoon the remaining meat, soup, and dumpling shell into your mouth. Swallow. Repeat cooling process if necessary.
Use spoon to scoop up any soup that spilled into bowl. Spoon final drop of soup into mouth.
Repeat as many times as desired.
This method of eating soup dumplings is based on numerous scientific trials (and watching people at other tables eating their dumplings.) Please feel free to share your own methods.

12:16 am - Mickey's on LiveJournal
What ever will she do? Perhaps begin with some tidbits about Chris & Mickey's first Black Rose.
Does it make me sound materialistic to say that my best moments at Black Rose happened in vending? Chris and I actually had an impromptu scene with a gorgeous woman from Chained Desires in Baltimore.
I tried on a gorgeous black silk ballgown skirt and needed something to wear with it, so suddenly we were digging through the corsets. We happened to find a black leather corset with hand-stitched red flames that was going to be a perfect fit. Chris had never tied a corset, so the gorgeous saleswoman gave him a lesson as she laced me up. There I was in the middle of the BR vending area being publicly laced into my first leather corset by my boyfriend and an incredibly sexy woman who seemed to be enjoying lacing me very much. It was quite a thrill. That corset turned out to be much too expensive, but the next day I found a black leather one with a zip on sale, and it was also a perfect fit. So I've got my leather.
